Method Race Wheels The Standard 402 Review

Both 12- and 14-inch sizes are available in various bolt patterns and offsets to fit most ATVs and side-by-sides. The Standard 402 tips the scales at 12.8 pounds for the 14-inch size we put on our XP1000. The 12-inch weighs in at just 10.4 pounds. A 1000-pound load rating is comparable to most race wheels.

We matched The Standard 402 to 28” GBC Mongrel tires for an aggressive look that isn’t over the top. If you put these wheels on your machine, you should carry a few Method brochures with you as you will get asked constantly what kind of wheels they are and where can they be bought.

Out in the desert we put The Standard 402 to the test, and they held up to everything we threw at them. We launched some huge air at Glamis without worry and smashed into rocks on the trail without any flat spots or dings. We would expect that the stainless steel bolts on the lip could take a beating if you are a hard-core crawler, but they are replaceable if you can get a socket or wrench on them.

The XP1000’s massive torque and horsepower had no problem turning the wheel and tire combo, and to be honest we couldn’t really feel an increase in acceleration or throttle response. However, we know for sure we didn’t lose any go-fast, and that right there is a win as performance loss often occurs with new wheels and tires, especially with cheaper (and heavier) cast aluminum or steel wheels.

Method Race Wheels is quickly becoming a player in the ATV and UTV wheel game offering good-looking wheels with quality that is hard to match. Wheels are one of the easiest ways to transform the stance of your machine, and The Standard 402 does just that with no loss in performance.
