An extremely rare 1968 Egli Vincent Black Shadow is among the hundreds of cool and vintage motorcycles that will congregate at America’s Car Museum (ACM) on August 22 for the fourth annual Vintage Motorcycle Festival: The MEET at ACM.
Considered the world’s first superbike when it went into production in 1948, the Vincent Black Shadow is a highly sought-after motorbike and became an icon of British motorcycle building throughout its production lifetime.
With only 100 examples being built by Swiss motorcycle racer Fritz Egli over four years, the 1968 Egli Vincent registered is a rarer version of the original Black Shadow that collected countless accolades. One such pop culture reference was in the novel “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” by author and gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, who believed that riding a Vincent Black Shadow was the only way to righteously cover the Mint 400 Desert Race in Las Vegas.
“Motoring history doesn’t limit itself to the number of wheels on a vehicle,” said ACM CEO David Madeira. “Our annual Vintage Motorcycle Festival allows us to share stories like the one of the Black Shadow with our guests every year.”
Other notable bikes preregistered for The MEET at ACM include a 1931 Harley Davidson V, a 1981 BMW R100/7, a 1977 Kawasaki KZ1000, a 1958 Norton Model 88 “Dominator” and a 1980 Ducati Pantah.
“Each and every one of the motorcycles on display has its own unique story and history! This makes this an exciting event, as the owners are present and sharing their stories and histories,” added Vintage Motorcycle Festival Advisory Board Chairman Mark Zenor.
Guests can expect to see more than 325 vintage motorcycles from the early 1900s through 1990 from manufacturers including presenting sponsor Indian Motorcycle. ACM will be raffling a 2015 Indian Chief Vintage with net proceeds of the Vintage Motorcycle Festival benefitting the Hagerty Education Program at America’s Car Museum.
